About us

Our mission is to promote America’s diverse cultural heritage by collecting, preserving, and sharing American Chinese history, culture and art, serve as a center for research and learning, and inspire and connect audiences with American Chinese experiences, with a goal to promote mutual understanding, mutual respect and mutual learning, between people of all backgrounds.

The American Chinese Museum will be an integral asset of the national cultural landscape that makes a meaningful impact on people’s lives.

Founder's message

Built in 1898, the Victorian twin house was designed by former Philadelphia architect Horace W. Castor. On March 14, 2017, this property was designated as Historical by the Historical Commission of Philadelphia and was listed on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places.

The former Castor House now has a new story to tell. As its existence spans almost the entire history of Chinese American immigrants, the historical house becomes an ideal place to carry the history and culture of the Chinese American people.
